South Florida could hardly be mistaken for a winter wonderland, but when the holiday season rolls around, we do not skimp on festive lights, trees and displays. But Palm Beach County is vast, and you'll need a guide if you don't want to simply cruise the streets looking for best and brightest lights.

Fortunately, we have come into this month prepared to help. From Jupiter to Boca Raton, from the coast to the western communities, use our lists and maps to help you find the best holiday lights displays in Palm Beach County.

Merry In Mizner — Merry in Mizner features pop-up entertainment sprinkled throughout Mizner Park under the holiday lights on select December dates.  The Mizner Park Holiday Tree Lighting takes place from 6-10 p.m. Nov. 23 at the Amphitheater. The city kicks off the holiday season with a free party featuring live music performances, snow flurries, a craft station, costumed elves, a holiday market, and a variety of food vendors. At 7:15 p.m., it’s the ceremonial lighting of the City’s tree led by Mayor Scott Singer also lights up Mizner Park’s lighting display — 50,000 LED lights adorning 75 palm trees. Afterward, a variety of musical performances are planned. Plaza Real East and West (interior roads inside Mizner Park) will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 5 p.m. Chairs are available to rent. No outside food or chairs.

Gumbo Limbo Aglow! — From 6-7:30 p.m. Dec. 5, 13, 20 and 27 at Gumbo Limbo Nature Center, 1801 N. Ocean Ave., Boca Raton. Discover what goes on in the aquariums at night, plus holiday refreshments, crafts, yard games, and a festive photo op with the sea turtle mascot, Luna. $15 residents and members, $19 nonresidents. Classic 100-foot tree and Holiday Village — The Christmas Tree Lighting and Yuletide Street Festival takes place from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3, at Old School Square, 51 N. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach. Santa lights up the famous tree and then visitors are welcomed inside. Santa’s Holiday Village offers ice skating, a carousel, mini golf, and visit with Santa. The Ave is closed to vehicle traffic so strolling is safe. Food, games and activities, a silent disco and carolers are planned. The tree, which has 18,000 ornaments and 217,980 individual LED lights, and Santa’s Holiday Village stay open through Dec. 31. Get tickets at the Gingerbread House. Boynton Beach Holiday Tree — Boynton Holiday Tree Lighting takes place at 6:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, in Centennial Square, 120 E. Ocean Ave., Boynton Beach. Activities begin at 4 p.m. with performances by local choirs, dance companies, and the BBCHS Drum Line. Interactive storytelling with Nanny Gingerbread takes place on the Tree Pad at 5:15 p.m. More than a dozen food vendors will be on site, as well as a well-stocked Holiday Market that features 10 local vendors. Kids enjoy holiday crafts with the Children’s Schoolhouse Museum & Sea Turtle Adventures. Take pix with Santa and Mrs. Claus + Mickey and Minnie in their holiday best and take a ride on the Holiday Express, a trackless train that winds through the event. 561-742-6024.

Holiday in Paradise — At the West Palm Beach Waterfront, Flagler Drive and Clematis St., West Palm Beach. Home to Sandi, the world's only 35-foot, 700-ton holiday sand tree. Rather than reindeer, Sandi will be accompanied by llamas, also sculpted from sand. Sharing the waterfront venue again this year will be the 50-foot 'Ferris the Wheel.' The show launches with a tree lighting Thursday, Dec. 5 during Clematis by Night. The display with synchronized nightly music and light shows runs daily from 6 to 10 p.m. on the quarter hour through Dec. 31.

Palm Beach Zoo Lights — Beginning Nov. 23 through Jan. 5, each evening from 5:30 - 9 p.m., zoo visitors can check out a wonderland of more than one million eco-friendly lights and a 24-foot animated tree. Take photos with Santa in the Winter Pavilion, decorate cookies or roast s’mores, enjoy hourly light shows, music and “snow” in the fountain. Adult nights Nov. 15-16 and Dec. 5 and 12. Lights 4 Hope Holiday Light Show — Okeeheelee Park, 7715 Forest Hill Blvd., West Palm Beach, near Micanopy Pavilion. More than two miles of animated and musical holiday light displays. lights4hope.org. Showtimes: 6-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 6-9 p.m. Sundays and select weeknights,beginning Nov. 24 with the first ever 2024 Family Fun Night kicks things off on Nov. 24 with an opportunity to walk or jog the light show route and with food trucks, vendors, holiday movies, bounce houses, singing and dancing. Advance ticket sales only. $20 for age 6 and older and free for age 5 and younger. Nov. 29 – Dec. 1; Dec 6-8; Dec 13-23; Dec. 25-28. Closed Christmas Eve. Bike Night ($15) is Dec. 29, with bicycles only from 6-7:30 p.m. then open to vehicles after 7:30 p.m. Tickets: Standard car or truck with up to eight passengers is $20. CityPlace — The Wishing Tree at CityPlace, 700 S. Rosemary Ave., West Palm Beach. The 30-foot-tall banyan tree is lit with 100,000 individually programmable, full-color-spectrum LEDs and nightly snowfalls and a light show takes place each evening at 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m. through Dec. 31.

Winter Wonderland Laser Lights and Bites — 6-9 p.m. Fridays through Dec. 6, 13, 20 and 27, at the Cox Science Center and Aquarium, 4801 Dreher Park Trail, West Palm Beach. The center welcomes a new show that includes a Holiday Sing-along Light Show at 8 p.m. and a laser show from 8:30-9 p.m. $24 adults, $22 seniors, $20 children, $17 adult members and free for members’ children and anyone younger than 3. Note: Southern Blvd will be closed due to construction. Enter through Summit Blvd.coxsciencecenter.org.

Cruising the main thoroughfares — Palm Beach knows how to spread the holiday light. The island's signature palm trees that line several of its thoroughfares, notably Worth Avenue, Royal Palm Way and Royal Poinciana Way, are wrapped endless yards of white lights.

The Flagler Museum’s Christmas at Whitehall — 1 Whitehall Way, Palm Beach. After the tree lighting in the Grand Hall, Sunday, Dec. 1, the 16-foot tree is on display at the 120-year-old museum daily, with special evening tours at 6, 6:15, 6:30, and 6:45 p.m. Dec. 19-21 and 6, 6:15, 6:30, 6:45 and 7 p.m. Dec. 22-23. Free for members. $60 adults, $30 for ages 17 and younger. Advance purchase required. flaglermuseum.us or 561-655-2833.

The Worth Avenue Holiday Tree — Residents flock to the corner of Hibiscus and Worth avenues annually to see this towering testament to Christmas tree lighting and there's no charge to stop by as you do some holiday shopping on the avenue. A holiday parade and tree lighting beging the season Dec. 3, starting at 6:10 p.m. While you're out, check out the oversized evergreen decorated at Bradley Park along Royal Poinciana Way and the surfboard tree at Royal Poinciana Plaza.

Royal Palm Beach Holiday Tree — Commons Park, 11600 Poinciana Blvd., Royal Palm Beach. The village's impressive 28-foot holiday tree is lit nightly beginning Dec. 7 at 6:15 p.m. royalpalmbeachfl.gov.

Lake Park Holiday Lights Display — Along Park Avenue from 7th St. to 10th St., in Lake Park. Each evening, the lights are on, and you can drive or walk to admire the lights in all the shops and restaurants. 561-881-3370 or lakeparkflorida.gov/CRA

2023 Santa's Trolley Rides — Departs from Veteran's Park and travels the Village from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 20. A treasured North Palm tradition, these rides let you view neighbors’ holiday lights and decorations. $1 per person or $5 per family cash only. Afterward, visit Santa and Mrs. Claus, play in the snow machine snow and enjoy treats at the North Palm Beach Library, where you can take pictures. 561-841-3386 or village-npb.org

Tree Lighting at The Gardens North County District Park — On Sat. Dec. 7 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. the city hosts a holiday season kickoff including a tree lighting with guests Santa and Mrs. Claus.

There's Snow Place Like Jupiter, the annual Jupiter tree lighting and holiday celebration takes place from 6-9 p.m. Friday Dec. 6 at Abacoa Community Park, 1501 Frederick Small Road, Jupiter. The tree stands tall through the holiday month.

15944 84th Ave. N., Palm Beach Gardens — Sean and Kristen Shea invite the community to visit their home for what they call the Country Road Christmas Light Show from Nov. 28 through Dec. 31. They have 50 songs in rotation synchronized to the lights. From 6-8:30 p.m. Nov. 30, the Sheas welcome Santa and the Scoop Coop. On Dec. 7 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. they’ll host an event with the Twisted Smoke Food Truck, the Scoop Coop ice cream, and Santa Claus.

The Heights, Jupiter — Lights, lights and more lights. This neighborhood of about 1,000 homes has tons of holiday spirit. You’ll often find friendly neighborhoods sitting in the driveway or on the front porch chatting. Just east of I-95 on Donald Ross Road, go north on Heights Blvd., and follow the road for about a mile. You’ll see a glow down the streets on your left: Check Hollywood St., Lauderdale St. and Drake St.

Gabriel Lane, Lake Clarke Shores — This normally quiet street just off I-95 is sometimes called the “Christmas Street.’ Directions: I-95 to Forest Hill Boulevard. West to Florida Mango Road. Turn right. Gabriel Lane on the right.

Old Northwood — This historic neighborhood founded in 1921 is decorated for the 35th Annual Old Northwood Holiday Home Tour, which takes place Saturday, Dec. 21. Located north of downtown a block west of Flagler Drive from 26th St. to 36th St., between Poinsettia Ave. and U.S. 1.

Woodland Creek — In western Lake Worth. Lots of decorated homes in this neighborhood. Take Lantana Road west past Hagen Ranch Road and turn south into Woodland Creek.

Flamingo Park — Just south of Okeechobee Boulevard and north of Belvedere, off Parker Ave. The Flamingo Park home tour returns in 2024 on Dec. 8 at 5 p.m. This is a great time to check out the holiday decorations both inside and out (residents regularly compete for bragging rights when it comes to be holiday yard display). Tickets for the home tour go for $75 and can be bought at flamingo-park-neighborhood.square.site, but walking through the neighborhood to see the lights is free. Begin with these streets: Ardmore Road, Claremore Drive and Flamingo Drive.

Deck the House Decorating Contest, Boca Raton. The City of Boca Raton is accepting online applications for through December20 at 5 p.m. Winners will be announced on Dec. 22 myboca.us
